Created to regulate river flooding, the high-water bed quickly became a nature site of great interest. It covers approximately 200 hectares and is characterized by permanent pools of water of varying sizes which are interspersed with small islands and peninsulas which are periodical submerged.

A geological phenomenon of international importance, the Salse originate where fundamentally gaseous hydrocarbon deposits, particularly methane, come into communication with the surface through cracks in the roof of the deposit: the gas leaks out pushing and carrying upward the salty waters associated with the gaseous deposit.
The Villa Sorra Park covers approximately 30 hectares from Gaggio di Piano in the town of Castelfranco Emilia. It is made up of the villa, a historic garden with ornamental plants imported from all over the world, a poplar wood outside the park that gradually turns into a woodland plains, meadows and cultivated fields.
The Oasi Val di Sole is located in the hamlet of Fossa and covers an area of 25 hectares between the rivers Po and Secchia.The Oasis is frequented by a rich bird life and is an important resting and nesting area for water birds and ducks. There are over 200 species that frequent the Oasis, some even at risk of extinction
The park is a vast area, one of the largest in the Emilia-Romagna plain, characterized by numerous permanent and temporary wetlands, small ponds, hedges, rows of trees, groves, stable meadows with patches and bands of shrubs
These natural environments - a total of 460 hectares - have been created since 1994 by numerous farms on previously cultivated land.
This area houses one of the most important woodlands in the Emilia-Romagna Region.
A regional preserve, the Sassi di Roccamalatina Regional Park covers nearly 5,700 acres between Guiglia, Marano sul Panaro, and Zocca. The “Sassi,” the three rocky pinnacles that give the Park its name, are visible in the interior.
The Regional Park of the High Modenese Apennines is a vast green oasis which stretches across the municipalities of Fanano, Fiumalbo, Frassinoro, Montecreto, Pievepelago, Riolunato and Sestola.

In 1598 Duke Cesare let a wide area near the old Castle fence; its transformation into Ducal garden was realized in the following years and it was arranged according to the canons of the Renaissance garden.
