Piazza Grande

Piazza del Duomo, built in the twelfth century, was renamed Piazza Grande during the second half of the seventeenth century.It has always been where not only local government but also religious power was managed. Rules for religious and civic life were decided from the Porta Regia of the Cathedral and its sixteenth-century pulpit, the railings of Palazzo Comunale, or even from the Pietra Ringadora stone table in the square.
