It preserves the documents produced or received by the cathedral of Modena from the Lombard period to today. The most precious nucleus is the one constituted by the manuscript codices that reached Modena over the centuries.
This facility receives documents from the city administration after they have been kept on file in the Depository Archive for the 40 years required by law. The archive also has a library containing approximately 5000 specialised volumes and sets of works including both printed works and hand-written manuscripts, for the most part regarding local history.
The archive of the Jewish Community of Modena and Reggio Emilia is among the few of its kind to be fully preserved.
Kept in the basement rooms of the town hall in Piazza Caduti della Libertà, 3 has been recently reorganized and inventoried, it preserves documents from 1475 to 1960.
It preserves a documentary collection divided into 7 chronological sections inventoried, starting from the year 1320 and a collection of maps and drawings.
The municipal historical archive constitutes the most consistent nucleus of the public archival heritage of Carpi. It is the product of the centuries-old civil administration activity of the local community.
