Ducal Garden

In 1598 Duke Cesare let a wide area near the old Castle fence; its transformation into Ducal garden was realized in the following years and it was arranged according to the canons of the Renaissance garden.

The Palazzina Vigarini was commissioned by Francis I d’Este in the 17th century as a casino, a recreational retreat for members of the Este court within the gardens of the Palazzo Ducale. The Palazzina was restored toward the end of the 1970s as part of a redevelopment plan for Modena’s historical district. The extraordinary quality of the architecture, the layout of the rooms, the large windows and the ample wall space make the Palazzina an excellent site for exhibitions organized by Modena Fondazione Arti Visive
